MBM Trinbago Meals catering business was birthed after I had lost my job due to the effects of COVID-19. Unfortunately I was employed on a contract basis as a quality engineer technical assistant in early 2020. Due to the effects of Covid-19 on the business My contract was terminated.
This left me in a dilemma with having post covid breathing difficulties and fatigue and no help from government Benifit’s. I had to use my creative skills. A friend suggested I do occasional cooking as I’ve been cooking since I was 3 in the kitchen back home in Trinidad with my grandma who had a stroke and only the use of one side of her body .
I sent out a text asking anyone if they wanted to order Trinidad doubles and I was overwhelmed that I got a response and order for 200 doubles within hours… it had taken me about 18 months to master the taste flavours and making doubles to taste how they would back home . I was nervous as I only ever let my children and best friend taste my doubles.
My daughter Amelia age 15 came in the kitchen to help and within a few seconds of cooking I burnt my finger and the oil spilt …. I thought wow can I do this as my hand was literally on fire and I felt the pressure of cooking so many doubles ….
I didn’t give up and I do occasional catering and registered the business with Sandwell local council. MBM Trinbago meals have provided the locals with some beautiful flavours of Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹. It’s beautiful that the islands dishes can be experienced and the different Roti can be shared. Many Caribbean catering is based around Jamaican cooking and I’ve always wanted more of the home food available. I just never thought I’d be the one contributing to the solution!
